BCS Celebrates the Success of More Than 70 IT Graduates at Annual Graduation Ceremony
BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, celebrated the success of more than 70 students at its annual Graduation Ceremony, held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute Auditorium on 12th September 2026.


For the occasion, BCS was represented by the Deputy President of the BCS Group, Mrs Emma Logan MCMI, ChMC, MBCS, who travelled to Mauritius to attend the ceremony.


The ceremony was honoured by the presence of the President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, GCSK, alongside the Hon. Sayed Muhammad Aadil Ameer Meea, Minister of Industry, SME and Cooperatives, and Dr the Hon. Avinash Ramtohul, Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation.


Serving as Master of Ceremony, Mr. Khaaliq Fawdar CISA, CISM, CEH, MBA MBCS opened the ceremony with a reflection on the responsibilities that accompany professional achievement. He encouraged the graduates to remain curious, embrace change with courage and use their knowledge responsibly, ensuring that technology continues to be a force for good.


The Regional Manager of BCS Mauritius, Mr M. Iqbal Boolaky FBCS, CITP, welcomed the graduates and congratulated them on their achievements. He also acknowledged the important role played by their parents and families in supporting them throughout their studies.


The Chair of the BCS (Mauritius Section) Ms Azina Nazurally MBCS addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of Information Technology as an innovative and constantly evolving field. She also emphasised the importance of Continuing Professional Development for IT professionals in keeping pace with technological advancements.


The Hon. Sayed Muhammad Aadil Ameer Meea spoke about the challenges facing today's workforce and the growing integration of Artificial Intelligence into industry. He highlighted how IT has become the new industrial backbone and explained its growing importance to the economic and industrial development of Mauritius.


Dr the Hon. Avinash Ramtohul emphasised the need to foster a new culture in which Artificial Intelligence becomes an important tool in the hands of the younger generation. He also highlighted the emergence of new employment opportunities and the importance of continuous learning and relearning in a rapidly changing technological environment.


In her address, Mrs Emma Logan spoke about BCS qualifications and their international recognition. She also discussed some of the challenges that graduates will face as they enter the world of work. Referring to the wider mission of BCS, she stated: “Today, one of our key objectives is making IT good for society.” She placed particular emphasis on professionalism, ethics and responsibility in the IT profession.
She further highlighted the breadth of opportunities available through BCS, stating: “As the Chartered Institute for IT, we can take you all the way through the stages of your education from a young age, right through to a post-Doctoral Level and onto Professional Certifications once you’ve begun working in the industry.”


The President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, congratulated the graduates, their parents and their course providers on their achievements. He spoke about the ambition of positioning Mauritius as an IT hub and highlighted the important role that the new generation of IT professionals can play in achieving this vision. The President also emphasised the need to ensure that technology is used responsibly and for the benefit of society, rather than being misused.


The highlight of the ceremony was the conferring of Diplomas and Degrees in Information Technology upon the successful graduates.
Academic excellence was also recognised during the ceremony. Top-performing students in various modules received prizes, while the overall best and second-best students were presented with special shields in recognition of their outstanding achievements.


The ceremony concluded with a family gathering, providing graduates, their families, guests and BCS representatives with an opportunity to celebrate their achievements together. Official photographs were also taken to commemorate this special occasion.
